Well if you want the best sound possible, if you want that extra bass, you simply have to get a subwoofer. In general, it gives you a more realistic and richer kind of sound.

I am not saying that you need to crank the bass all the way up (although my Appetite For Destruction album says otherwise) even if you just have it pretty low, you will notice a huge improvement in the sound quality that you are experiencing. 1. Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer

Pros:

• Nice price
• Has a cool looking design
• Great design at all volumes
• None of that annoying humming
• Turns itself on

The first one I tried out was this bad boy from Polk. To start with, I love the design, it has a very 80’s look to it and that is something I really like. This subwoofer has a ton of personality and at 12 inches high, it is a nice size, but at the same time it does not take over your entertainment center or stand out in a room. I really think that most people will get a kick out of the style.

Also when you first take this out of the box, you will be amazed at the weight of it and how solid it feels. They really have made this with strong and solid wood so even if you were to drop something on it, I feel it would be fine. Polk have done a great job in the design of this and at around 200 bucks, I can tell you that this is one of the best subwoofers for turntables in this price range.

So it looks good, is well made and the price is right, but what about the sound? The sound is fantastic and I will be honest it took me a while to notice that there is none of that humming that you can sometimes get from cheaper subwoofers. I even played music a little lower in volume and still, there was none of that hum and the bass was just right. I was honestly very impressed and spent a good couple of hours messing around with it, seeing how some of my favorite albums sounded on this thing. If you love your rock like I do, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, and Motley Crue sound awesome and I can tell you that from personal experience! 

Cons:

• Design may not be to everyone’s taste
• You may have to buy a cable to connect it to turntable

Connecting this to your turntable could not be any easier, it is done with just one wire (which it does not come with) and it turns itself on when a signal is present which is a very nice touch. While I will use this for my music, I am sure that it would sound fantastic with your surround sound system as well. I really do not have anything bad to say about this and for the money, you have a real winner on your hands here and a great subwoofer for your turntable.

Bic America is a company that I did not know a lot about before I put their subwoofer for turntables through its paces, but I am pretty impressed. Currently, this is going for around 200 to 220 bucks and I feel this is a very nice price for a turntable subwoofer for a person who wants to hear their music in the best quality possible. The first thing I have to talk about is the design, while I really liked the 80’s style of the Polk.

I do feel that this one is a little more modern. It is made with a very similar kind of wood and it is roughly the same size, but it just has a bit more of a “cool” vibe to it and that might be what makes some of you pick this one. It looks great on my set up and if you have a home theatre, you will find that no matter what kind of set up you have it does not look out of place.

The sound was very nice. I actually used this for a few hours and my wife even had a go and played some U2 through it, which if you knew her usually musical tastes, you will know is not bad at all. Sound wise, I really put this through the ringer. I messed around with the dials on the back to get the bass just the way that I like and I like a nice rumble and deep bass that just does its thing without being too overbearing. On the flip side of this, you can turn the dials all the way up to max, crank up the volume on your turntable and give the neighbor something to complain about. 

Cons:

• Some may not want to pay this much
• Dials on back may be a little confusing to some

One of the things that makes this so popular when it comes to subwoofers for turntables is that it features something they call the BIC “Venturi” vent. I am not going to pretend to understand the science of this, but basically, it makes it so there is none of that low level humming which is something I always like a subwoofer to have. In all this is a fantastic piece of kit and I am truly dreading having to pick a winner between this and the Polk!

3. Bic Acoustech PL-200 II Subwoofer

Pros:

• Has a really classy style to it
• Is made of strong wood
• Sound is great no matter the volume
• Easy to use

Next up I have a subwoofer for turntables that I have not actually tried, but when a buddy of mine heard I was doing this, he insisted I used this subwoofer which he has been using for a few years. At 12 inches it is the ideal size for most rooms and I really do like the design of it as it is very old school and elegant so it looks fantastic no matter what room it is in.

It can cost right around the 250 bucks mark so it is a little higher priced than the other two that I checked out, but I feel the design of this is why you will most likely be paying a little bit more for it. So as far as the style goes, you will not have any problems with this fitting in your set up.

As far as the sound quality goes, my buddy swears by this subwoofer and says that all his records sound better now. I have actually heard music through it and I can say that the sound is great. He likes his music loud and there was no annoying rumbling and from what I understand it sounds just as good at lower levels too. One thing I do want to mention and this is not from my buddy, but from what people online are saying, you have to be careful in where you place it as it needs to be flat and just in the right area. 

Cons:

• May need to be moved around to get the best sound
• Higher priced than the other two

So if you do buy this and are not happy with the bass that you are getting. Before you jump online and start writing angry emails. Try changing the placement of it as this seems to fix most of the issues people have with it. I think this is a great subwoofer for a turntable and am sure that you would be very happy with it, with over 500 reviews on Amazon and the majority of them 5 and 4 stars, it is a very popular and highly thought of subwoofer.

4. Dual Electronics BP1204 12 inch illumiNITE High Performance Studio Enclosed Subwoofers

Pros:

• Awesome looking blue LED lights
• Interesting horizontal design
• Easy to use
• Ideal if you have a more modern setup
• Only costs around 130 bucks

Last, but not least we have this subwoofer for turntables by Dual Electronics. I have not actually used this, but when I was looking online for what people feel are the best subwoofers for turntables are, I came across this one here. Of course, it is the design that captures your attention with this subwoofer.

The blue glowing LED lights and the horizontal design instead of the box design that most subwoofers go for really did capture my attention right away and from the number of reviews on Amazon, it appears hundreds of other people felt the same. I have honestly never seen a subwoofer that looks like this before and if you are a person who loves their LED lights and wants something that is just super cool, you will certainly want to take a closer look at this.

At around 130 bucks, I would imagine the sound quality is not the greatest, but when I looked at the reviews are very positive. Some people say that when they turn the sound all the way up there is a little distortion, but at this price, we are not shocked to hear this. Still, most people sound very happy with the bass that this subwoofer puts out so I would suggest that most people who just want that little bit extra kick for their vinyl will be very happy with this. I am very tempted to get these for the upstairs room where I have my older turntable as I do really love the look of these. 

Cons:

• Sound quality may not be the best
• Not ideal if you have a more traditional and laid back setup

Just make sure that you understand that a huge part of the appeal of this subwoofer is the design so there may be a couple of liberties taken with the sound, but again I have to call attention to all of the positive reviews. As of right now, there are hundreds of positive reviews for this subwoofer so that is certainly something that is comforting.

What Is The Best Subwoofer Under $300?

I think that the Bic Acoustech PL-200 II Subwoofer is a great piece of kit and my friend loves it. Also, the Dual Electronics subwoofer is one of the coolest things I have ever seen, but really for me, it has to come down to the Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer and the BIC America F12 12-Inch 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer.

Both of these are incredible subwoofers for turntables and I am honestly having a hard time picking between the two, but if I had to pick just one of these I would go for the BIC. It sounds great, looks great and I was able to fine tune it to my exact standards, so out of all of the subwoofers we have looked at today, I would pick the BIC as the best subwoofer for a turntable.
