One of the best things about my job is that I get the chance to check out awesome audio tech. Over the past couple of weeks, I have tested out five different floor standing speakers that are all priced under $1000. I have tested five of these and then I have picked a couple that I think are worth taking a closer look at, but I have not had the pleasure to test myself.
1. Klipsch RP-250F Tower Speakers (Ebony)
Pros:
- Sound is great
- Available in three colors
- Very nice and compact design
- Bass is fantastic
Cons:
- Required Hulk like strength to get out of packaging!
- Some might not like the compact design
At a little under 600 bucks for both speakers, these Klipsch RP-250F Tower Speakers are a great deal if you want some good sound but at a more affordable price. Let me start with the design, I was pleasantly surprised with how thin these speakers were. You get an idea from the images, but despite being average height for a set of floor speakers, these are surprisingly compact in their design. The set that I was sent to check out was the ebony style, but these speakers are also available in black and cherry as well. I love the way that speakers come through the covering a little bit at certain angles.
Looking good is nice and all, but what about the sound? Well, right of the bat I can tell you that I was impressed with these. I have tested and actually owned Klipsch speakers in the past and been happy with the sound quality and that rings true here too. I tested these out with Terminator Genesis on Blu-Ray. First of all the movie was terrible, but hey it sounded great! The bass that these produce is very, very clean.
There is no distortion even when you have the sound cranked up. The treble is just right and the vocal clarity is great. Even when I fired up a couple of records on my turntable the sound was impressive. I did notice the sound was better the following day so like most speakers around this price here is a bit of breaking in time, but that is not a big deal.

As well as checking these out for myself I also wanted to do a little research and see what the general thoughts on the Klipsch RP-250F Tower Speakers. Looking around online and on other reviews sites like Crutchfield. I found that there was not much if any negativity about these at all. For example, if you look on Amazon to see what real customers are saying this has a 100 percent five star rating! That is pretty impressive. The general feeling that people seem to have is that these may not offer the best sound in the world, but people who use these are more than happy with them.
In all, I was very impressed with these Klipsch RP-250F Tower Speakers. The price is very reasonable and the sound quality is fantastic. If you are using speakers that came with a stereo or a budget priced surround sound set up, these will be a huge upgrade for you.
2. KLH Cambridge Floorstanding Loudspeakers

These KLH Cambridge Floorstanding Loudspeakers have a real sense of elegance around them. So much so that instead of using them in the living room, I took them up to my game room to give them a good workout with my turntable that I have up there. Before I get to that though, let me talk about the design. These speakers come in walnut and black oak, I was sent the walnut version and I love how old school and cool they look. The black speaker grille on the front really finishes them off perfectly. Now, these are priced at around the 800 bucks mark and always appear on the best floor standing speakers under $1000 lists. But these come as a pair and also as single speakers so make sure you have selected the pair option.
When I listen to certain kinds of music (and more importantly when the wife and kids are out) I like to listen to it loud. Guns n Roses is the perfect example of this and what better album than my original pressing of Appetite of Destruction to test these out with. It sounded awesome, even when turned up nice and loud there was no distortion at all. The bass, treble and Axl Rose’s vocals were great. I did test out these speakers with a couple of movies as well and was impressed that the speaking and the action sounded great. Some speakers have the vocals too quiet, but that is not the case here. Some have called into question the build quality of these speakers and I must admit they did feel rather light and empty compared to other speakers I have tested at this price range, but that did not seem to affect the sound quality.

Hmm, this was very interesting to look into. I actually was not impressed with the way that these were sent to me as the packaging seemed very, very cheap. This is actually something I have read a couple other customers complain about too! Now to be fair mine arrived safe and sound and I am sure most people will, but if you have a delivery driver who thinks your package is a football you could be in trouble. Still apart from that people seem happy (from reviews at AudioReview) with the sound quality of the KLH Cambridge Floorstanding Loudspeakers and also the style of them as well. These seem to be a hit with those looking for classy looking speakers.
Available in two really cool designs these KLH Cambridge Floorstanding Loudspeakers are well worth taking a closer look at if you want your speakers to look good as well as sound good. The sound quality was very good for both music and movies so I have no doubt that these would be a great addition to any kind of entertainment center.
3. Monitor Audio 200 Floorstanding Tower Speakers
Pros:
- They look awesome
- Orange driver cones look good
- The sound is very impressive
- All about that bass baby!
Cons:
- Some people may find the feet weird
- They are pretty darn loud for some folks
At almost 1000 bucks these are well under our one grand price limit so that is great. These have a very classic kind of style. I remember a few years back you struggled to find dark black stereo equipment like this because people felt black was 80’s. Well, the 80’s rocked so I am glad to see this style be more relevant now. The driver cones are orange which does come through the grille ever so slightly when you catch it at the right angle and I think that is really cool. When it comes to the presentation of these Monitor Audio 200 Floorstanding Tower Speakers I love the feet. I really do not know how to describe them they look like little feet from an alien spaceship and I think it makes these speakers stand out.
As far as the sound goes these speakers are all about that bass. To give the bass a bit of extra kick they have an extra bass driver which on the right movie or right song can kick in amazingly well. If you love your music to have super bass then I think you will love these speakers. I am a huge Poison fan and had a great time rocking out to some of their biggest hits on these. My son and I also watched The Lego Movie on DVD through these and I was very impressed with how they sounded with movies as well. They are very loud, but there was no distortion. Actually, the sound was so good and loud that my son was complaining about it. Kids these days!

I could not actually find a whole lot online about these apart from the general sales pitch that you get from the different sites that are selling them. However, I did find a couple of reviews on WhatHiFi and on YouTube one of which Upscale Audio High Fidelity had some very nice things to say about these speakers. , Also I think that checking out the video (and other videos about speakers you are interested in) is a great way to get a better idea if the speakers are for you.
The Monitor Audio 200 Floorstanding Tower Speakers are a fantastic set of speakers. They have a rather unique and stylish look to them that I love. The sound at this price range is great. I think that no matter if you are getting these for your music setup or your home theatre, you will be impressed with the sound.
4. Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Three-Way Floorstanding Tower Speakers

Let me start this off by saying that these Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Three-Way Floorstanding Tower Speakers are truly incredible. These come in two different styles. The version that I was sent was the black ash style. I love speakers and any other stereo equipment in this style as it always reminds me of the 80’s. They have a similar kind of feet to the ones we just talked about and that is cool. The other style that these speakers come in is a natural walnut color, which if you are as ignorant as me when it comes to colors you just call brown. The style of these makes them ideal for those that want their speakers to not just sound good, but look good too.
The people who put these together knew what they were doing. These are some of the best floor standing speakers under $1000 when it comes to their sound. They have a set of dual 8 inch woofers which make the bass nice, deep and rich, but not overpowering. I hooked these up to my best turntable and was very impressed with the sound quality. I had some fun with a few live albums including my favorite bootleg Guns n Roses one and was very happy. For movies, the sound is also very good. I ended up watching the Arnie classic, The Running Man and then the not so classic, Last Action Hero and was more than happy with the sound. If you tinker with the settings on your receiver or whatever you have these hooked up to, you can really get the sound just the way you want it.

The Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Three-Way Floorstanding Tower Speakers are some of the most popular speakers on this list and finding customer reviews was a piece of cake. Like me most people seem to be very pleased with the sound quality of these speakers. The couple of negative reviews from HomeTheaterHiFi that I found called the build quality into question. Now to be fair, I think this may have been just some people getting unlucky with a defective unit being sent from the factory. I know it sucks, but it does happen. Still, I am very happy to see that so many people love these speakers as much as I did.
I was very, very impressed with these Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Three-Way Floorstanding Tower Speakers. They work great for movies and music and if you are a live music fan like me you will be extremely happy. A cool style and great sound make these a very easy recommendation, plus they are way under a thousand bucks.
5. Q Acoustics 3050 Floorstanding Speaker Pair

- Groovy style may not be your taste
- A little breaking in is required
Now these are groovy! How can you not love the style of these Q Acoustics 3050 Floorstanding Speakers? I was actually very surprised that these speakers are coming in at around 700 bucks which I think is a great price for any Q Acoustics product. They have clearly gone for a retro design with these and I really dig that, they look like a set of speakers out of the 70’s and that is cool. They have these speakers in two different styles. The version that I was sent to have a look at Are called American Walnut and they have a real elegant style about them. The speaker grille is not black which is a nice change of pace and it fits in great with the American Walnut design. The other style available is Graphite which to me is a fancy way of saying black.
The bass, treble and the vocal clarity are fantastic with these speakers. I am actually trying really hard to think of anything negative to say and I cannot. They may take a little breaking in, but that is to be expected. These look good and they sound good, that is exactly what you want in a set of speakers. I had a day listening to some of my favorite albums such as Appetite For Destruction, Blaze Of Glory and even a little Billy Joel! Then in the evening we had family movie night and watched Avengers Infinity War which sounded excellent. No matter if it is movies or if it is music, the sound is great through these speakers. Plus the fact that they are way under a thousand bucks makes them extra awesome.

You will find that the general feeling is that these speakers are awesome. The Q Acoustics 3050 Floorstanding Speakers are some of the coolest speakers I have ever seen. The folks at Q Acoustics made a set of speakers that have a really cool and stand out look. But they did not stop there as they have made sure that these things also sound amazing. Ideal for connecting to your stereo and your Blu-Ray player!
6. Q Acoustics Concept 40 Floorstanding Speakers
Pros:
- They look incredible
- Gloss finish
- Come with a really cool stand
- Incredibly well made
Cons:
- Close to a thousand bucks
- Will kids get fingerprints all over them?
Next up we have a set of speakers that I have not had the pleasure of testing out for myself, but I wanted to talk a little about them. The other Q Acoustics speakers that we just spoke about had a rather old school kind of design. These ones though go the other way and thanks to their gloss coat look like they are from the future! They come in black and a very stylish white. I love the design of these, but I think the black ones pop a little more thanks to the little bit of white detailing that is on them.
These are priced at just under a grand so they are right at the limit of what really should be on a best floor standing speakers under $1000 list. Still, I think that the style of these makes them speakers that some of you guys will get a real kick out of and want to take a closer look at. Now I cannot speak of the sound quality, but I had a good look at what is inside these speakers and they have not spared any expense. From the drivers to the tweeter Q Acoustics have really gone above and beyond with these and I am certain that they will sound amazing even at louder volumes.

I really wish I could have tested these out as like the other Q Acoustics speakers that I reviewed. People seem to love these! I did not come across one really bad review (such as from HiFiChoice and from AVForums) about these speakers. I know the price is a little high, but when you are getting something this good you really cannot complain. One thing that I was a little worried about was kids getting their fingerprints all over the gloss finish, but that is not something I really noticed people complaining about. Still, I would keep the kids and anything else sticky or greasy away from these.
I know the asking price is quite high, but these are some of the coolest speakers that I have ever seen. The Q Acoustics Concept 40 Floorstanding Speakers have gone for a style that is all their own and one that I really do not think I have ever seen before. From what other people who have actually tested these have said, the sound quality is incredible!
7. Audio Pro Addon T20 Bluetooth Wireless Home Theater Floor Standing Stereo Speakers
Pros:
- They look like a pillar which is cool
- Very smart design
- Price is not bad at all
- They are wireless
Cons:
- You will have to pair every device to them
- Design might not be every ones cup of tea
Last of all I have for you these Audio Pro Addon T20 Bluetooth Wireless Home Theater Floor Standing Stereo Speakers. What caught my eye about these is that they are available in white. What is weird about that is that I think white speakers look super cool, but they would never fit in with my setup in a million years. While I think the white is cool, black is also available. These speakers have a really cool and elegant look to them no matter the color and the base that they are standing on makes them look like a pillar which I think is pretty cool. These are priced between 600 and 700 bucks which is not a bad price.
Now you may have noticed something about the name of these and that is the word Bluetooth. These are Bluetooth speakers which for large floor speakers which will serve as your main source of sound is pretty interesting. They come with a remote and from what I understand they are very easy to connect to your devices. So you could connect these to your phone and play music right from there which is kind of cool. Well not for me as I am a vinyl or CD man, but I know a lot of people love the convenience of playing music from Spotify. They do have jacks so you can plug them in directly and on the back, there is even a USB port so that you can charge your phone while listening to music from it which is pretty neat. I have not actually tested these, but the description does say that the aim of these is to deliver deep bass which sounds good to me.

As I did not get to personally test these I, of course, had to look online and see what people were saying. I found that these had some really mixed opinions about them. For example, on YouTube, I came across a review where a gentleman was very impressed with them. However, over at the What Hi-Fi review site, they were much more critical and called the power and bass of these speakers into questions. This leads me to believe that for the average joe these speakers would be great. For you people who are a bit more of an audiophile, you may want to look elsewhere.

What Are The Best Floor Standing Speakers Under $1000?
I had a great time getting to test out some awesome speakers and also doing a little digging around to see what other people (not that my opinion needs backing up or anything) have to say about them. It sounds like a cop out, but there really is not a bad set of speakers in this list. I think that all five of the ones I tested and the two I did not are worthy of a spot on any best floor standing speakers under $1000 list.
Still, with that being said, there are two that I think stand out from the rest they are the Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Three-Way Floorstanding Tower Speakers and the Q Acoustics 3050 Floorstanding Speakers. These two just ooze elegance and style and I think would fit in no matter what your set up is. The sound quality is also fantastic, if I had to pick just one I would say that the Q Acoustics 3050 Floorstanding Speakers sound just a little bit better, but there is not much in it if I am being honest and most people who are not as nerdy as me would not notice.
